This is when we go a bit English and Wimbledon (sans tennis) and celebrate the wonders of the motor car, the glories of an English summer (fingers crossed) and our lovely green Prescott.

The fastest action will be from competitors in rounds nine and ten of the Avon/BMTR Top Ten Challenge.  Competition will be fierce to qualify for each of the run offs for championship points, one each at the conclusion of the class runs. Trevor Willis held top spot after round eight with Deryk Young third.  A number of drivers, including Trevor and Deryk, also compete in the MCL British Hill Climb Championship and are entered this weekend.  Rob Turnbull, John Chalmers, Andy and Mark Coley, Oliver Tomlin and Andrew Platt are all Prescott regulars and know the track well.  Look out for Will Hall who has had some excellent results this season in his 1600cc Force PC and Sandra Tomlin, a former Ladies Record Holder.  Local interest will be focused on Terry Davis from Cheltenham and his wife Tricia, driving a Reynard with an engine developed by Terry.

A local driver is in contention for the UK Changes Midland Hill Climb Championship.  Richard Jones from Pitchcombe was in second place after round four, only one point behind leader Dave Wilson.  Contested at nine meetings, three each at Loton Park near Shrewsbury, Shelsley Walsh near Worcester and here at Prescott, competitors score points according to the time they set in their class runs.  The competitive nature of this championship is illustrated by the fact that places three to eight are separated by only one point.  All bar one of the top eight are entered this weekend so action should be guaranteed.

Three Prescott based championships for Bugatti Owners Club members continue this weekend.  The Prescott Gold Cup is in fact the trophy jointly won by William Grover-Williams and Caberto Conelli for winning the 1931 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa in a Type 51 Bugatti, beating the legendary Tazio Nuvolari into second place.  Points in the Gold Cup are awarded to each competitor in relation their target time which is set at the beginning of the season.  The Prescott Classic Car Challenge and Prescott “B” License Challenge are each run on a handicap basis.

The Richard Egger Speed Championship makes its annual visit to Prescott this weekend. With classes for road and race cars, the championship also includes Sprint events.  With a possible 25 events to contest, only competitors’ best 8 results can be counted.

The ever-popular Pirelli Ferrari Hill Climb Championship returns for its second visit to Prescott this season.  This 14 round championship for road going Ferraris is another championship decided on handicap, thus theoretically equalizing the performance of each car and giving all drivers the opportunity of winning.

With so many championships’ being contested this weekend, you can be assured of plenty of action on the track.  We hope you enjoy it.
